The Caterpillars have been working very hard trying to learn the three times table. Here’s the clip we have watched in class.
Capitalising Caterpillars (Y1/2 2018-19)
As part of anti-bullying fortnight The Caterpillars have been taking part in class discussions about bullying and creating posters about friendship, we are looking forward to showcasing our work next Friday in our class display. We hope you can all make it! To kickstart the fortnight we wore odd socks to show that we are all different yet all the same.
The Caterpillars have been learning about Diwali. We made some beautiful Diva lamps to light the way home for Sita.
To celebrate the work we have put into our Gruffalo topic, we made gruffalo crumble. We had real Gruffalo apple that were kindly supplied by Zoe, our parent helper. We used real knives to peel and chop our apples. I’m looking forward to eating the crumble. I might even share with the children 😊
The caterpillars have been doing some very tricky maths, they have shown great resilience and perseverance while trying to partition numbers into different groups of tens and ones. We have used different resources to support our learning. Keep it up Caterpillars 😀
As part of our art topic we are looking at different sculptures. We are leaning different sculpting techniques each week. This week we made thumb pots and practised moulding the clay into different shapes.
We have had a very special visitor in our class today!
The children have celebrated Roald Dahl day by reading Esio Trot (one of Mrs Hoyle’s favourite books). Esio Trot is about a man called Mr Hoppy who is in love with a tortoise loving lady. To win her heart, he swaps her tortoise several times convincing her that his magic word have made the tortoise grow. We are continuing this book tomorrow to see if Mr Hoppy’s plan works.
As a special surprise Mrs Parker and Poppy kindly brought their tortoise into class this morning. The children enjoyed learning about how to look after a tortoise and asked many questions. We have written easy to follow instructions for anyone wanting to keep a tortoise as a pet. This afternoon we have practised mixing different colours together to create a tortoise shell.
Spelling tests will be held every Monday, and your child will receive their new spellings.
Homework will be set on Friday to be returned the following Friday (if you require any support please see myself or Miss Buxton).
PE kits will be required on Thursday and Friday.
Your child will read as often as possible at school so please make sure they bring their reading book every day.
It has been a fantastic start to the year. All of the children have settled into their new class well. Behaviour has been excellent and I’m very proud of my class. All of the children have an outstanding attitude for learning and I am excited to see where this leads us. This half term we are learning the value of numbers and have played lots of related games. Well done Caterpillars!
