This half terms Life Skills trip was travelling to Barnsley by train but before we even got their we had a quick stop at the park! We then used our social expectations skill when walking through town centre. We then went to McDonalds where all children ordered their own lunch. The children (and staff) then walked back to the bus station before catching the bus back to school, the kids were fab!!
Resilient Rhinos (Resourced Provision)
All of Resource provision recently had a day practicing their life skills they had been learning. They waited at the local bus stop before boarding the bus and paying the driver to go to Cortonwood! We then used our road safety skills to walk to Morrisons before choosing our lunch from the menu and ordering our own dinner using money. Everyone had a fantastic day, before coming back and learning how to make hot drinks safely!!
In life skills this week we wanted to find different things that we could have for breakfast. We took a shopping list and got things for hot drinks, juice, pastries, and a variety of fresh fruit….. Some went down a treat and others said “no thank you” :). Try asking the Resource kids next time you see them what their favourite was!!
This week in Life Skills our children have made some colourful pinwheels for the Sensory garden. They worked together as a team, used simple tools to attached them to the shed. Pupils followed instructions and were able to think imaginatively to create their own designs.
This week in Life skills we wanted to brighten up the outside area which we are making our new sensory garden. Each child in Resourced Provision designed there own rock which will be there legacy until they leave Hoyland Springwood. They painted something onto the rock that represented who they are and things they like, so not one rock will be the same. After this we went out to explore what sounds we could hear in the garden and what we thought we could put in there to make it more relaxing for people. Even the rain didn’t put us off!
This week in Life Skills week 1 children looked at the school environment and how to improve the school space. Children worked together to improve how the sensory garden appears, use simple garden tools and work together. They all did a fantstic job and the garden plans are now being designed by students throughout school to make this a space for everyone.
Resourced Provision children have had a fantastic start to the new academic year. Life skills is starting this Thursday and Social skills on Friday, so stay tuned for pictures and information of what we have been up to!!
As part of Resourced Provision we try to look at things broader than the curriculum and help our children with life skills they will be using when they leave us. This week we focused on being able to take turns, share and accept when things might not go your way.
For the younger group we looked at how to start a conversation and end a conversation, things that some of us take for granted. They learnt different types of greetings and how to politely end a conversation.
Resourced Provision have been taking part in life skills sessions learning to take turns, taking part in different games, interacting with various staff and adults – whilst having fun! They also learnt table manners, and had a small party in the provision! This was all to say goodbay to one of our lond serving members of staff – Gail. Gail has gone on to work at another school for children with Autism.
She will definetly be missed by children and staff alike and we hope she comes back to visit soon!
Writing stimulus week in Resourced Provision has seen the Rhino’s completing some amazing Literacy work, based on the animation The Clock Tower. Each day we completed a different task which included – sequening, adjectives and sentence formation. Look below to see what the Rhino’s have been doing.
