Olympic Day

Monday 12th March

Sixteen KS2 children took part in an Olympic Athletics event at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield. Twenty one schools in total from South Yorkshire were involved in the event.

In the morning the schools were split into groups of 7 and took part in heats to determine which pools schools would take part in in the afternoons finals. We had some fantastic successes in the morning session with top three finishes for Harry Oldfield, Elouise Hunt and Abbie Riley.

The afternoon saw us take part in Pool C and again the children were amazing. We managed to finish runners up in Pool C and I was extremely proud of all of the children. A huge congratulations to the children for their efforts and for the way in which they represented the school .

I would like to give a special mention to Archie Riley, Hayden Oliver, Megan Bennett and Elouise Hunt  for taking part in YR 5 events despite being YR 4 children.

Some of our successes:

Abbie Riley 1st in girls YR6 Standing Long Jump

Abbie Riley 1st in girls YR6 100m

Natasha Goulding 2nd in girls YR5 Javelin

Elouise Hunt 2nd in girls YR5 100m

Harry Oldfield 2nd in boys YR6 100m

Abbie Riley, Elouise Hunt , Alicia Davies and Megan Bennett 3rd in girls YR6 relay.

School Football Team

Friday 26th January

The school football team took part in the next round of league matches at Jump Primary School. The team made up of Conor Bacon, Harry Oldfield, Coby Bennett, Hayden Oliver, Toby Crowcroft, Kayden Hastie, Rhys Copnell and captain Jack Fenton, took on Hoyland Common and Jump Primary School.

In the first match we played Hoyland Common and started the game really well and raced into a 2 goal lead with Rhys Copnell getting both goals. Half way through the second half and Common managed to pull one back. Common then dominated the game and were pushing for an equaliser but we managed to hold firm with Conor making several miraculous saves in goal. Finally he was beaten late in the game by a wonder strike. Withe the score at 2-2 we were hanging on and again Conor saved our bacon with more great saves. The match finished with the result 2-2.

Into the second game against Jump and we dominated the game from the start, hitting the post twice and creating several other fantastic chances.  Late in the half Jump managed to pitch a goal with their only meaningful attack of the half. Into the second half and again we created more chances, Jump scored a second leaving us with an uphill task. With just 3 minutes remaining Jack scored to bring us back into the game, sadly we ran out of time and lost the game 2-1.

The team have made me extremely proud, the spirit and determination that they have shown as a team is great to see and they have worked tirelessly in every game we have played. We have become a very competitive team and are managing to show what we can really achieve with hard work.

Well done lads.

Next match Friday 9th February at Greenfield

Friday 24th November – School Football Team

On Friday the school football team played its first two fixtures of the season at West Meadows School. The team had to watch the first game as West Meadows beat Birdwell comfortably 6-1.

We then played West Meadows and took an early lead with Jack Fenton scoring we then quickly scored a second and third to lead 3-0. West Meadows then hit back with two quick fire goals just before half time.

Into the second half and West Meadows hit back and led the match 4-3. With just 30 seconds left we were awarded a free kick after a foul on Rhys Copnell. Toby Crowcroft stepped up and with the last kick of the game slotted the free kick away making the final score 4-4.

We then went on to play Birdwell and were beaten 4-0. However, the lads were exhausted after putting so much effort into the West Meadows match. I was hugely impressed with the effort and determination that the lads showed.

Thursday 9th November – Yr 5/6 Football

On Thursday the boys football team took part in the regional football finals at Kirk Balk School. The boys were paired in a group with Mapplewell, Penistone St John, Barugh Green and Athersley South.

The boys started the competition really well and gained their first point in a closely fought contest that ended 0-0 with Mapplewell. Athersley South were next and we lost 2-0, following this we then played Barugh Green and were unfortunate to lose the game 1-3 Jack Fenton scoring after a long through ball from Connor. The last group game was against Pensitone St John and again we lost this game 2-0.

The boys finished 4th out of 5 in the group and didn’t manage to progress to the quarter finals, however, they have come along way and are really showing huge progress.

The next football tournament is on Friday 10th November YR 3/4 at West Meadows and Friday 17th November YR 5/6 at West Meadows.
