Year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics

Friday 30th December

We took a team of eight children to Netherwood School to participate in a year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics competition. There were nine teams taking part including ourselves.

There were nine events in which we took part in, including Shuttle Runs, Hurdles, Javelin Throw and Speed Bounce. At the end of the nine events all the teams scores were combined to give an overall team score.

The top three teams in the competition would progress to the regional finals on Thursday 13th December. We managed to secure 3rd place.

A huge well done to Matty, Ethan, Hayden, Archie, Megan, Natasha, Georgia and Lauren on progressing to the finals.

YR 3/4 Football

Friday 16th November

We took a team of six children to the Year 3/4 football at West Meadows. We were drawn in a group with Birdwell, Holland Common and West Meadows. We struggled in the first game against Birdwell, losing 4-0.

In the next game we beat West Meadows 2-1 with both Josh Berry and Warren Greensmith scoring the goals. With a win in the final game  against Holland Common we would qualify for the semi finals.

A great start to the game saw Josh burst through one on one with their keeper who managed to save a certain goal. Common went straight up the other end and scored. Common ran out 3-1 winners with a Josh scoring our goal direct from a corner.

Year 5/6 Football Tournament

Friday 9th November

We took part in the year 5/6 football tournament at West Meadows. All eight schools in the Kirk Balk Partnership took part and we were placed in a group with Birdwell, Holland Common and West Meadows.

Hayden, Matty, Elouise, Charlie, Archie and Josh performed brilliantly for the school and each match they were better and better. I was very proud of how they performed and represented the school. They were able to compete against the other schools despite being made up of year 5’s when all the other schools were year 6 children.

Unfortunately we didn’t manage to qualify for the semi finals with West Meadows and Hoyland Common progressing.

We welcomed six schools from the Kirk Balk Sports Partnership to take part in the KS1 Cross Country at Hoyland Springwood. The schools that attended were, Birdwell, Ward Green, Tankersley, Greenfield, West Meadows and Jump.

This year the children were pushed that little bit harder as we asked them to run two laps of the course (1/2 a mile). The course was really challenging with a couple of steep, tricky hills including running through the forest.

Monday 11th June

We took separate boys and girls teams to Darfield cricket club. The girls team took part in the morning tournament and were drawn in a group with Churchfield, Park Street and High View.

In the first match the girls comfortably beat Chruchfield and followed this up with a closely fought victory against High View. The final group game was against Park Street and we narrowly got beaten. This was enough for us to qualify for the Barnsley finals which are taking place on Tuesday 19th June.

The boys played in the afternoon and were drawn in a group with Churchfield, The Ellis and High View. Again we beat Churchfield and then The Ellis and a win in the last game against High View would see us win the group. After bowling first we managed to keep High View down to their lowest  batting total so far. However, High View fielded superbly and managed to beat us. We finished as runners up in our group and this was enough to qualify for the Barnsley Finals later in the month.

Year 6 Residential

Wednesday 6th June – Friday 8th June

What a fantastic couple of days spent at Edale YHA. The children enjoyed plenty of challenging activities over the course of the few days including, canoeing, crate stacking, archery and abseiling off a 70ft bridge.

It was amazing to see the way everyone supported and reassured each other during the activities. Children were happy to challenge themselves and push themselves outside of their comfort zone and the way they helped each other was fantastic.

They were an absolute credit to the school and it was an absolute pleasure to be part of such a special time in which they have strengthened friendships, bonds and made memories for life.
